Biomedical & Physiologic Research & Science

We are honored to be a part of the team directly involved in NASA’s next step in long duration space flight and exploration. We provide Laboratory Services, Environmental Factors Science and Research, Ground Based and Flight Analogs Bed Rest Study support, and Flight Medicine Operations. Our team is comprised of distinguished researchers, scientists, and doctorates involved in cutting edge scientific discoveries from our work supporting JSC’s Human Health Performance program.

Laboratory Services

We perform tests and experiments to evaluate, select, and adapt standard methods and techniques to monitor human health, as well as validate countermeasures to counteract the effect of extreme environments on human physiology. We implement nutritional assessment techniques to analyze samples for physiologic markers and provide detailed dietary intake assessments.

Environmental Factors Science & Research

Examining environmental impact on human health requires a multifactorial approach and thorough understanding of changes to the environment. To support such an effort, we monitor the environment on different levels including microbial contamination, water quality, water contamination, and their impacts on the health of those exposed and their surroundings.

Ground Based & Flight Analogs Bed Rest Study Support

Our team has the extraordinary privilege to aid NASA scientists in maintaining astronaut health and safety for long duration space flight. Researchers use a broad range of functional tests in controlled bed rest studies to measure physiologic changes. We screen qualified research participants for both ground-based life science and flight analogs. We coordinate studies and monitor research study participants to ensure study protocol compliance and protect valuable research data integrity.

Biomedical Operations Training

We develop curriculum materials and lessons to deliver hands-on expert instructional training on hardware used for biomedical research and science. Our instructors collaborate with biomedical engineers, health and medical specialists, scientists, and flight controllers to capture and fully integrate essential information to ensure comprehensive education. We train crews, flight controllers, engineers, and other space medicine support for all Crew Health Care System hardware on the International Space Station.
